In our article “The golden rule for Healthcare Content Creation,” we explored the need to reduce the risk of people acting only based on one piece of your content and some tips to fix this without hurting your engagement and educational impact.
Here is a guide to audit your content before posting to make sure you aren’t breaking this golden rule.
Step 1: Identify the Key Takeaway
📝 Write down the one thing you want your audience to remember after engaging with your content.
Step 2: Check for Risks or Misinterpretations
Would someone misunderstand this if they lack medical knowledge?
Is there enough context to prevent misinterpretation?
If someone acts immediately based on this, could it be unsafe?
Does my audience need prior knowledge to fully understand this? If so, have I provided enough background?
Step 3: Use the "Content Safety Quiz"
✅ Answer Yes or No to these five questions:
Does my content have enough context for someone unfamiliar with the topic?
If someone follows this advice immediately, could it cause harm?
Did I provide a responsible hook instead of misleading clickbait?
Did I clarify if this advice is not universal?
Does my post align with ethical and professional content creation?
📌 If you answered ‘No’ to any question, tweak your content to:
Add missing context
Clarify who this applies to
Ensure it’s framed responsibly, without exaggeration or fear-mongering
Here’s how small changes can make your content safer and more effective.
❌ Bad Version: "Vitamin D boosts immunity!"
✅ Fixed Version: "Vitamin D plays a role in immunity, but excess can be harmful. Always consult your doctor before supplementing."
❌ Bad Version: "This diet will change your life!"
✅ Fixed Version: "This diet has benefits, but here’s what you should consider first."
❌ Bad Version: "Creatine is great for muscle recovery!"
✅ Fixed Version: "Creatine has great benefits, but if you have kidney issues, check with your doctor first."
Using this guide ensures your content is engaging, informative, and most importantly—responsible.
